Equity Bank Uganda helps refugees across the country rebuild their lives through banking services. The bank supports refugee families with money transfers and business loans as Uganda marks World Refugee Day. Over 130,000 families have received cash assistance through nine refugee camps during the past several years.
Derrick Kyambadde runs social protection programs at Equity Bank and shared details about their work with refugees. The bank gave nearly 1.8 billion shillings to around 400 refugee businesses over two years. Women received most of the business support with 7,182 female entrepreneurs getting help compared to 3,867 men.
