What are best EQ and compression settings to use as frequency starting points based on the Fibonacci sequence (by Leonardo Pisano Bigollo)?

There is no inherent relationship between audio mixing, mastering, and the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence is a mathematical concept involving a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. It has been used in various fields, such as art, architecture, and biology, but it does not have any direct relevance to audio mixing or mastering.

I can't comprehend why you would want to approach audio mixing and mastering using the Fibonacci sequence.

What exactly are you on about here?

You know how certain VST EQ plugins have fixed frequency bands that's what I am talking about -- I am saying how can you implement personalized frequency bands but using the Fibonacci sequence?

Oh, that... I think I get what you are saying. But I still don't know if that will be too useful.

Anyways, you'd probably do it like so:
  • EQ Frequency Band 1 (9th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 34 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 2 (10th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 55 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 3 (11th number of the Fibonacci Sequence)= 89 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 4 (12th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 144 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 5 (13th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 233 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 6 (14th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 377 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 7 (15th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 610 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 8 (16th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 987 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 9 (17th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 1597 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 10 (18th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 2584 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 11(19th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 4181 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 12 (20th number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 6765 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 13 (21st number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 10946 Hz
  • EQ Frequency Band 14 (22nd number of the Fibonacci Sequence) = 17711 Hz

Rounded-off that will be:
  • 34 Hz
  • 55 Hz
  • 89 Hz
  • 144 Hz
  • 233 Hz
  • 377 Hz
  • 610 Hz
  • 987 Hz
  • 1.6 kHz
  • 2.6 kHz
  • 4.2 kHz
  • 6.8 kHz
  • 11 kHz
  • 18 kHz

WTF is that?

He is also gonna bring the subject of Fibonacci retracement levels into the mix too, no pun intended.

I know y'all think this is funny but the loudness levels of some online music streaming platforms (or DSPs) services are kinda based on the Fibonacci retracement levels. For example, if you take EBU's Program Loudness standard of −23.0 LUFS and increase that using the Fibonacci retracement level of 38.2% you get -14.214 LUFS. When you round that off that's 14 LUFS. If you repeat the same process but this time around using 50% you get -11.5 LUFS.

Really, fam?

What is so special about −23.0 LUFS?

50% is not really a Fibonacci retracement percentage though.

Ideal Fibonacci retracement percentages include the following:
  • 1.3%
  • 2.1%
  • 3.4%
  • 5.6%
  • 9.01%
  • 14.6%
  • 23.6%
  • 38.2%
  • 61.8%
  • 78.6%
  • 127.2%
  • 161.8%,
  • 261.8%
  • 423%
  • etc.
