This sound design tutorial shows how to make deep wavy synth keys using a virtual synthesizer — Lennar Digital Sylenth1.
It's a synth preset mainly suited for slow or mid-tempo music, but you can use it in whatever genre of music you are into. So follow the steps below to make this sound:
Use these settings for Oscillator A1:
- Voices = 4
- Waveform = Sawtooth
- Detune = 28%
- Oscillator Re-trigger = Enabled
- Octave = Default
Use the settings below for Oscillator A2:
- Voices = 4
- Waveform = Pulse
- Phase = 68.5 degrees
- Detune = 28%
- Oscillator Re-trigger = Enabled
- Stereo Width = 85%
- Octave = Default
AMP ENV SECTION: For the Amp Env you simply have to make a few changes:
- Release Slider = 68%
FILTER SECTION: Change the settings of Filter Side A as follows:
- Warm Drive = Enabled
- Filter Control Cutoff = 24%
- Filter Control Resonance = 27%
- Filter A Type = 12 dB Low-Pass filter
- Filter A Cutoff = 0%
- Filter A Resonance = 11%
- Filter A Drive = 11%
MIXER SECTION: Adjust the levels of the Mixer this way:
- Mix A Fader = 85%
- Main Mix Fader = 65%
MOD ENV 1: Map modulation envelope 1 to control the cut-off point of Filter A:
- Mod Env 1 Amount = 100% (*Clockwise*)
- Attack = 16%
- Decay = 60%
- Sustain = 23%
- Release = 49%
- Mod Env 1 Mod Destination = Cutoff AB
LFO 2: Make use of LFO 2 (low-frequency oscillator) to implement a slight pitch drift:
- Waveform = Sine Wave
- LFO Rate = 1/8th (*Triplet Note*)
- LFO Gain = 8%
- LFO Mod Amount = 4% (*Clockwise*)
- LFO Mod Destination = Pitch AB
MISC 1: Map Miscellaneous Modulation 1 to control the gain of LFO 2 via the Mod Wheel:
- Mod Misc 1 Source = Mod Wheel
- Mod Misc 1 Target = LFO 2 Gain
- Mod Misc 1 Amount = 8% (*Clockwise*)
