mashurugwi

is the name of an organized machete gang in Zimbabwe that operates primarily in the mining sector in areas such as namely:
  • Kwekwe
  • Kadoma
  • Inyathi
  • Sherwood
  • Battlefields
  • Venice mine
  • ...etc...
They are reported to inflict gruesome violence on other miners with the objective of controlling territory or suppressing further competition, and to them, it is often said: "competition is a sin" in which the transgressor can only be baptized with a bhemba.

Note: The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has not yet identified the head honcho of Mashurugwi and the matter of violence being perpetrated in mining areas is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, there are other small-time criminals who are now wreaking havoc on civilians other than miners even though they are not directly affiliated with Mashurugwis.
