or homwe means a medium (a living person) for either mhondoro or mudzimu (a spirit of a deceased person).

Note: To keep things simple and without being too verbose just think of svikiro as someone who is possessed by a late influential ancestor of the same tribe or someone closely related to them. Their role is basically to do the same thing the dead ancestor used to do which is to help all the other members of that family (i.e., if it's mudzimu) or the entire tribe (i.e., if it's mhondoro) by liaising with Musikavanhu on their behalf so that their wishes and desires may be granted.

For example, a person who is a rainmaker or a rainpusher (i.e., the supernatural ability to stave off a drought or to stop rainfall for a period of time) is often referred to as masvikiro emvura and basically, that's another form of natural magick.
