Farmers across Kenya will receive over one million bags of cheaper fertilizer starting Monday, March 24. The supply ran into brief transportation problems earlier. Agriculture leader Mutahi Kagwe shared this news on Saturday after many farmers faced empty shelves at government storage centers. People who visited National Cereals Board locations recently couldn't cash in their digital voucher messages for fertilizer. These electronic coupons help farmers buy needed growing supplies at lower prices. Kagwe promised all these supply headaches would be fixed right before the big farming season started. The government has loaded train cars with fertilizer from the coast at Mombasa. The first big shipment reaches Naivasha by Sunday morning. As a backup, another massive load of 1,380 metric tons travels toward Mombasa. Kagwe wants farmers to stay confident about planting on time despite recent worries. Since December 2024, farm supply centers have seen record interest from growers. The storage buildings were filled due to high demand, which actually helps the supply chain work better by opening up space for fresh deliveries. Kagwe said every storage center will be packed with fertilizer again by next week. The agriculture boss warned people to watch out for fake products during this busy season. He urged everyone to buy only from official government centers or approved sellers. The Anti-Counterfeit Authority continues hunting down criminals who try selling worthless imitation fertilizers to desperate farmers during planting season.
