Abuja International Afrojazz Festival is adding a music trade hub to help Nigerian acts land gigs abroad. Its fourth edition brings the Professional Music Market to Jabi, Abuja. Around 20 guests from 10 nations are set to take part. The guest list goes well beyond singers. Talent agents, show promoters, festival chiefs, music writers, rights experts, and artist managers are in the mix. Each brings a chance for fresh deals, joint projects, tour slots, and career growth. Pretty much the type of access many acts seek. Backing comes from Institut français Nigeria, the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, and ECOWAS. Across two days, the market plans to host talks, expert panels, advice clinics, and direct business chats. Nigerian acts can pitch their work and meet key people in person. Under the CONNECT theme, guests will dig into music rights, income, tech, and the way African and global markets work. CREATE & DEVELOP then turns to Europe, with a focus on how artists and music firms can form strong ties. Meanwhile, Nordic Abuja has seven live acts on its bill. The picks came from 75 bids across 26 nations. Four performers hail from Nigeria, while the other three come from the United Kingdom, Benin Republic, and Austria. A tight field, for sure. Papyrus from Togo, Pepe Oleka from Benin, and Pearl Rocker from Abuja have a joint music project lined up. Their four-day stay will give them room to craft fresh tracks for the final show. Cobhams Asuquo and his band will lead the closing gig at BALI City Park, Wuse 2. Other names on the bill are The Salako, Jessica Bongos, Chilean act Gustavo Cerqueiras, and Greece-based Adedeji. The three artists from the group project will take part as well. For founder The Salako, Abuja has a role beyond its place as Nigeria's seat of diplomacy. He wants the city to serve as a place where African music and global business can meet. The event has grown from its early days into a mix of live art, cultural links, and music business support. One past edition drew over 1,000 guests. Diplomats from Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, and Egypt were among them. And there is a wider plan for access. Online ticket sales aim to cut paper use, while more women are set to take part onstage and in key roles. Afrojazz Festival Nigeria Limited is behind the event.
