A dad faces serious charges after cops say he left his special needs kids alone at home. Thaha Abdul Latef works as an accountant and appeared before Judge Norazlin Othman today. The 39-year-old man denied both accusations against him during court proceedings. Police claim he abandoned his two disabled children without proper care on March 15. The incident happened at their family house located at Elmina Valley. Court papers show Thaha left his 10-year-old son who has mild autism without supervision. His 12-year-old daughter cannot see properly and was also left alone that same day. Both kids needed special attention because of their disabilities. The father made no arrangements for someone to watch them during his absence. Authorities discovered the children were home alone and filed charges against their dad. The Child Act 2001 covers these types of cases against parents who neglect their kids. Convicted fathers can face up to two years behind bars for this crime. Judges can also impose fines reaching 5,000 ringgit for child abandonment. The law protects vulnerable children from careless parents. Special needs kids require extra protection under these legal rules. Judge Norazlin set bail at 10,000 ringgit for the accused father. Thaha must check with police officers once every month as part of his release conditions. He also had to give up his passport to court officials. The case returns to court on September 4 for further proceedings. Lawyer Mohd Redzuan Mohamed Yusoff will defend Thaha against these charges.
