Court Finds Man Guilty in Rights Office Phone Theft.
A court in Accra found Foster Nyarko guilty of taking a phone from a rights office in Ghana's capital. The 36-year-old said he took the Samsung phone, worth GHC 4,999, from the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice.
Police caught Nyarko on January 30, 2025, near another place where he tried the same act - the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons at Ridge. A security video showed him stealing the phone.
Nyarko told the court he did it. Judge Basilia Adjei-Tawiah said he was guilty but will give the sentence on February 27, 2025.
Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah told the court what happened. He said Nyarko had no job and lived in Takoradi Effiakuma. The phone belonged to Celis-Jane Nyadroh, who runs office work at CHRAJ.
Last October, Nyarko went to CHRAJ. He told the front desk he came to check his job papers. He then walked up to room 15 on the first floor. No one was there. He took the phone and left.
The next day, Ms. Nyadroh told the police her phone was gone. Later, on January 30, 2025, people at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons caught Nyarko. The security video from CHRAJ showed him taking the phone.
Police took Nyarko back to CHRAJ on January 31. He said yes, he went into the office and took the phone. The court will decide what happens to him next month.
