Human rights activist Madi Jobarteh has responded to former president Yahya Jammeh's recent comments. Jammeh tried to downplay efforts to bring him and his associates to court.

Jobarteh said Jammeh has only one thing left to do for The Gambia. He must go to court. There, he should be sentenced to life in prison. This would be for murder, torture, rape and looting.

"Everything else Jammeh says is just the imagination of a lonely criminal," Madi stated. "He committed the worst crimes in society. He is forever tainted here, now, and in the afterlife."

Madi thinks Jammeh's remarks should push President Adama Barrow to act. Barrow's government should speed up the process of extraditing and trying Jammeh before the Special Tribunal. They should also cut ties with the APRC party and remove all of Jammeh's enablers from the government.

Madi also warned Barrow not to follow Jammeh's path, which includes corruption, disregarding the law, abusing power, and using laws and institutions as weapons. It also involves ignoring court orders, poor performance, divisive politics, and favoritism.

Madi said Barrow must uphold the rule of law and accountability, ensure public institutions perform well, and effectively manage and protect human rights. This fulfills Barrow's oath of office and the Constitution.
