Actor Jack Betts passed away at age 96 on Thursday at his California home. The veteran performer died peacefully during his sleep at his Los Osos residence. His nephew Dean Sullivan confirmed the news to reporters. Betts appeared in the 2002 Spider-Man movie and many Western films during his long career. He worked as a character actor for decades across television and movies. Betts was born on April 11, 1929, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He grew up in Miami and studied theater at the University of Miami. The young actor moved to New York City to pursue his dreams on Broadway. He made his stage debut in 1953 performing in Richard III. A scholarship to the famous Actors Studio helped launch his professional career. The actor appeared in more than a dozen Spaghetti Western movies during the 1960s and 1970s. Television viewers saw him on popular soap operas like General Hospital and All My Children. He guest starred on major shows such as Gunsmoke, Seinfeld, Friends, and Frasier. Betts played many different characters throughout his television career. His work spanned several generations of American entertainment. Betts played Henry Balkan in the Spider-Man film starring Tobey Maguire. His character fires Norman Osborn from the company board during a key scene. The actor also appeared in Batman Forever and other major Hollywood productions. He continued acting well into his later years. Beverly Hills Playhouse honored him after his death with a social media tribute.
