The Association of Gambian Manufacturers (AGM) just won a big award. It was given out at a special meeting between The Gambia and Senegal, which took place on December 19-20, 2024. The award was given out for helping bring more business and industry to The Gambia.
The Gambia's embassy in Senegal gave AGM the prize. So did two other groups that work on business and investing. They thanked the AGM for making the meeting a success.
Farimang Saho leads AGM. He said the award shows how hard his team works. AGM started over 30 years ago. The goal was to improve the situation for companies that make products in The Gambia. But it had some tough times. In 2024, the group elected new leaders. They made a five-year plan.
Mr. Saho shared some of the AGM's recent wins. These include:
AGM members can now bring in some materials without paying taxes. The group also joined several important national committees, signed deals with similar groups in Senegal, and was invited to meetings in Morocco and China.
Mr. Saho believes these successes led to the award. He wants the government to keep supporting AGM's work. The group has helped shape The Gambia's national development plan for 2023-2027. Many AGM members pay a lot in taxes.
AGM hopes to continue working with partners to boost The Gambia's economy. Mr. Saho thinks this will create jobs for young people. He is excited about an upcoming event in the city of Kaolack in January 2025.
