Actress and singer Andra Day is embroiled in a legal dispute with her manager, Jeff Evans, as both sides claim to be owed money. Day and Evans began their working relationship in 2010, five years before her Grammy-nominated debut album, Cheers to the Fall, and its hit single, “Rise Up.” However, their partnership has now led to dueling lawsuits filled with accusations of greed, betrayal, and missing funds. Evans filed a lawsuit on October 6th in Los Angeles, alleging that Day stopped paying him in 2024. He claims he is owed a 40% royalty on her publishing and a 20% commission on other income, including a portion of $1.5 million in publishing advances and backend payments from her Netflix film The Deliverance. Evans' lawyers state he is owed at least $850,000. In response, Day filed her own lawsuit on October 7th, calling the agreements "exploitative" and accusing Evans of stealing more than $1.6 million. Day claims Evans misused a $600,000 Warner Records fund and took over $1 million in royalties. Her attorney, James Sammataro, alleges that Evans left Day in financial turmoil, unable to pay credit card debt or afford a tour. The day is calling for an investigation into the matter.
