Armed inmate wild escape ends in arrest

Police caught the prisoner who escaped with a gun from court in Harare. Luke Zinyengerere, plus four of his family members, went to jail after his dramatic breakout. He had pointed a gun at prison guards, stolen a car, and driven away fast from the courthouse.

Police leader Paul Nyathi shared that they arrested Luke Zinyengere for breaking out of custody, armed robbery, and having a gun against the law. They also caught his relatives Tatenda Zinyengere, Kelvin Chinganga, Siphelile Zinyengere, and Obey Rwaendepi. These people helped the prisoner run away and kept him hidden after his escape.

Police learned that his younger brother, Tatenda, gave him the pistol used during the escape. Luke took this gun and robbed Tinashe Chiyamuro of his Mazda Demio car. He later left the stolen car on Kaguvi Street in Harare. Then, Luke met with the other arrested people who tried to help him leave Zimbabwe.

The police warn everyone not to hide criminals or block justice. They ask people to report crimes by calling 0242-703631 or messaging 0712800107 on WhatsApp. People can also visit any nearby police station to share information about criminal acts they see.
