Atiku Abubakar visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his home in Kaduna State on Friday. The PDP politician brought along ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai from Kaduna and Aminu Tambuwal from Sokoto. Atiku later shared on X that he came to pay respects after the Sallah celebrations. He said the meeting was wonderful because Buhari told funny jokes that made his ribs hurt from laughing.
Atiku explained he had to be in Adamawa for Sallah as the Waziri Adamawa, where he represented the Lamido Fombina during some festivities. The group came to Kaduna to meet with opposition leaders at a time of major changes. Atiku recently announced forming a coalition with El-Rufai and Peter Obi to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo revealed Atiku and Obi were talking about joining his party.
Adebayo believes they could defeat Tinubu if they follow SDP rules. NNPP leader Buba Galadima claimed El-Rufai might serve as Atiku's backup plan in the SDP if the PDP refuses to make Atiku their candidate. This meeting happens as opposition figures appear to be reorganizing against the current government.
