Mask seller Boniface Kariuki lost his life after a bullet smashed into his head and damaged his brain badly. Doctor Peter Ndegwa performed the body examination at Kenyatta National Hospital and found four tiny bullet pieces stuck deep inside the brain tissue. The pieces were probably made of rubber and doctors missed them during the first operation because they were small and hard to reach. Kariuki had almost no chance of living because his brain was hurt very badly and he lost lots of blood. Two other bullet pieces had already been taken out when he was still alive. The autopsy report proves that a police officer shot Kariuki from close distance and the video showing this attack is real. Detectives from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority watched the body examination and will send their final report to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The family wants to move his body to Kenyatta University Funeral Home on Thika Road before burying him on July 11 in Kangema, Murang'a County. Emily Wanjira speaks for the family and says they were shocked to learn about the extra bullet pieces. She asks Kenyans to help pay for medical and funeral costs because the court case has been changed to murder charges. Kariuki died on Monday June 30 at 3:15 in the afternoon after weeks of medical treatment. His sister had said doctors declared him brain dead after spending more than a week fighting for his life. President William Ruto gave the family one million shillings to help with expenses. Kangema MP Peter Irungu Kihungi brought the money to the family. The shooting has made people across the country very angry about police violence.
