[QUOTE="Munyaradzi Mafaro, post: 31695, member: 636"] Brikama Area Council wants everyone to know they never raised taxes on their own, despite what Minister Drammeh told the Assembly, according to The Standard Newspaper last Friday. The Minister claimed BAC hiked taxes without approval, going against his 2019 authorized rates. Yet he failed to mention exactly which taxes BAC supposedly increased beyond what he approved. His accusations lack any facts or evidence. They seem to be based mainly on guesses rather than real information. The whole issue started when someone in the Assembly made false statements about property taxes. Assembly member Maimuna Darboe wrongly stated that current council leaders raised property tax from D300 to D2000 for buildings worth over D500,000. This simply isn't true. That change happened back in 2019 under different leadership. Minister Drammeh himself approved those exact rates that year. The new rates became official in BAC documents in 2020. The council hasn't created any new tax increases since 2020 until today. They merely collect the same rates established years ago when Minister Drammeh gave his official approval. BAC strongly rejects any suggestion that they raised taxes or rates recently. These claims contain zero truth. No increases have happened under the current leadership. The present council just works harder to make sure all residents pay their fair share toward developing the West Coast Region. Their approach focuses on better enforcement of existing rules rather than creating new financial burdens for citizens. The council believes collecting proper taxes from everyone helps fund important community projects. They want citizens to understand that current rates remain unchanged from those set five years ago.
