Joyce Banda plans to make high school free for everyone if Malawians elect her president again. The People's Party leader shared this promise at a campaign event in Zomba. She spoke to a crowd at Songani ground in Senior Chief Malemia's area. Banda officially announced she wants to run for president in the September 16 elections. The former president talked about how many parents have trouble paying for their kids' education. She expressed sadness about this situation, which drives her plan for free secondary schooling. Research shows that 140,000 students left school because of Tropical Cyclone Freddy. Another 200,000 kids stopped attending classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Banda promised to continue giving motorcycles to young people. This helps them start businesses in transportation and build financial independence. She asked people in Zomba Malosa to vote for her daughter Edith Kachale Banda as their representative in parliament. She said this would bring more growth to their area. PP Secretary General Ben Chakhame said Joyce Banda needs to lead Malawi again right away. He believes she can fix problems like fuel shortages, rising prices, and other economic troubles causing hardship. Chakhame reminded everyone how life was better when Banda served as president. He pointed to cheaper fertilizer prices back then, which led to plenty of food. Chipiliro Ajida, who came to the rally, talked about how hard life has become for Malawians. Many people go to bed hungry, and families cannot afford school costs for their children. Ajida blamed these problems on bad leadership that ignores poor citizens. Edith Kachale Banda, who wants to represent Zomba Malosa, promised to improve Songani Community Day Secondary School by adding boarding facilities. She also plans to transform the local playing field into a stadium for sports activities.
