Bangladesh grabbed attention at Kuala Lumpur's machinery showcase, flaunting products far beyond its famous clothing exports. The country pushed engineering goods, plastics, and light industrial items at the 36th Malaysia International Machinery Fair. More than 450 companies from ten nations filled 753 booths during the three-day event. Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre hosted the gathering from July 10 through 12. The fair drew participants from China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Japan, and Iran. Malaysia's Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari bin Abdul Ghani kicked off proceedings on July 11. Bangladesh High Commissioner Md Shameem Ahsan showed up as guest of honor for the final day's business matching session. He pitched his country's export opportunities across engineering, plastics, leather goods, jute, handicrafts, and electronics sectors. The presentation followed directives from Nobel winner Dr Muhammad Yunus to branch out from traditional exports. Event organizers handed Bangladesh a special recognition award, which the High Commissioner accepted. Shameem Ahsan made rounds at Bangladesh's two exhibition stalls, chatting with visitors about product diversity. He predicted that participation at such international venues would boost market access for Bangladeshi goods among Malaysian buyers. Foreign visitors and potential buyers swarmed the Bangladeshi displays from day one. Trade between both countries currently hits around three billion US dollars annually. Malaysia ranks as Bangladesh's ninth biggest foreign investor.
