[QUOTE="Munyaradzi Mafaro, post: 47179, member: 636"] The Bangladeshi film Mastul has earned an invitation to the 21st Kazan International Film Festival. Director Mohammad Nuruzzaman received the official invitation through email last week. The festival will take place from September 5 through September 9 this year. The film continues to gain international recognition after previous success at other global events. Nuruzzaman expressed that the invitation provides special encouragement for his entire production team. Mastul previously received praise at the Moscow International Film Festival and the Cheboksary International Film Festival in Russia. The film has been selected for a special program called Russia – Islamic World rather than the main competition. This program features 10 films from countries within the Strategic Vision Group Russia – Islamic World. The program emphasizes themes of humanism and empathy and excludes films that show violence or cruelty. Countries represented this year are Bangladesh, Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran, Indonesia, the UAE, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan and a joint production from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The festival organizers report receiving a record 845 film submissions from 67 countries around the world. The Russian Ministry of Culture supports the festival and Rustam Minnikhanov serves as patron. Mastul presents a minimalist and poetic view of shipmen who live on the water. The cast features Fazlur Rahman Babu, Deepak Suman, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Arif Hasan, Sikdar Mukit and Sifat Bonna. The film demonstrates the growing international appeal of Bangladeshi cinema.
