Wilson knocked on Leaf's door after midnight and asked for food. Leaf heated up two pizza slices and Wilson ate them quickly. Wilson slept on the couch and woke up around 4 am asking for a ride home. The two men stayed friends for many years after that night. Leaf served as an usher at Wilson's 1995 wedding.

Paul McCartney called Wilson a musical genius with mysterious talent. McCartney said Wilson's songs were simple and brilliant at the same time. He loved Wilson and felt privileged to know him.
