Uganda army forces stopped a woman who tried to bomb a church on Tuesday. The woman rode a motorcycle toward Uganda Martyrs Basilica Munyonyo where people gathered for prayers. Soldiers shot her down just 600 meters from the church building. Her bomb vest exploded after she died and destroyed the motorcycle driver. Army spokesman Col Chris Magezi said the woman was Aisha Katushabe. Security forces knew about Katushabe from past arrests and investigations. She used fake names like Byaruhanga Sumaya and Kabonesa during her criminal activities. Soldiers arrested her back during October 2023 for connections to terrorist groups. Her husband Muzafaru died when counter terrorism forces killed him during 2021. Muzafaru had planned to bomb a police funeral that same year. Katushabe was daughter to Abdul Shaqur who bombed Central Police Station during 2021 attacks. Intelligence officers learned about the church attack plan two days before it happened. They arrested another suspect who gave them important details about the bombing plot. Army forces used that information to stop Katushabe before she reached the church. The arrested suspect remains locked up for more questioning.
