Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima recently installed a new borehole at Sacred Heart Boys Primary School. He believes clean water directly contributes to better education for students. The Catholic leader from Zomba Diocese explained that the school faced major water problems before this addition, which harmed student learning opportunities at the facility. The Bishop hopes this water access will boost academic performance throughout the school. He encouraged the children to focus more on their studies since they have fresh water available right on campus. The church leader emphasized how Catholic education aims to meet basic student needs first. He stressed that providing water remains central to their educational mission across the region. Headteacher Norah Nkaombe thanked the Bishop for the clean water source. She explained how the borehole helps both students and teachers maintain cleaner classrooms. The water allows staff to mop floors where many children sit during lessons. She added that the school uses this water for cooking meals through their feeding program. Student Chipo Phuziwa expressed happiness about the new water source. He said students can actually wash their hands after bathroom visits or before eating meals. Pope Francis provided money for this project through the Society of Holy Childhood organization. The school started operating in 1939 after construction finished the previous year. Today, it serves 803 students with a teaching staff of 27 educators.
