High Court Judge Munamato Mutevedzi handed down the maximum sentence. He said the gang could never return to society.

The Ncube brothers are Mkhululi, 26, Qhubekani, 23, Qabhakani, 30, and Thulani, 27. Their neighbor is Mexen Moyo, 28.

The gang used knives, sticks, and kicks in the planned attack. They showed no remorse, the judge said.

Mr. Ndlovu died after being taken to Kwekwe District Hospital. The attack happened at Peter Maranga's shop.

Witnesses said the gang tripped Mr. Ndlovu and stabbed him on the ground. They beat his legs and arms with logs.

Mr. Ndlovu's mother, Sawe Ncube, gave moving testimony. She said the gang called her son a "dog."

The brothers turned themselves in to the police in August 2023. Moyo surrendered later that month.

Judge Mutevedzi said the heinous crime meant the men forfeited a second chance. He sentenced each to life in prison.
