The High Court in Bulawayo cleared ten murder trials from a group of 23 cases since last month. The National Prosecution Authority said 13 other cases stopped for different reasons. The court plans to hear 83 cases before the first term ends. Six people faced punishment after their trials. The rest wait for a decision. One case brought Khumbulani Tshuma back to court. He killed a man during a money game in Cowdray Park in 2022. After a fight started, Tshuma put a knife in the man's lower body. Two past police workers from Beitbridge face trial. Xander Siyasayi and Daniel Peyani hurt and killed Blessing Nare. They burned his body. Later, they put his remains in a bag and hid it in a drain. This happened in December 2020. The past police workers did this during a store break-in case at Toporo Special Bottle Store in Zezani. The truth came out when Nare's mother, Sibongile Ndou, asked why her son never came home after his arrest. When asked, Siyasayi and Peyani said Nare ran away. They said they tried but failed to catch him. On January 7, 2021, people found Nare's dead body in a white bag inside a drain pipe. The police then arrested Siyasayi and Peyani. In another case from Guyu, Matabeleland South, Proud Siziba used a knife to kill someone. He first stabbed the person's back, then made more cuts all over the body during a fight. The Midlands High Court Circuit finished 60 murder cases. They found 24 people at fault and let 12 go free, which helped clear up old cases. The court started after head lawyer Loyce Matanda-Moyo saw more than 500 old cases from 2019. She found these during her trip to the Midlands Province last year. Chief Judge Luke Malaba then created special courts to speed up these trials. The first group of trials, in September 2024, ended 140 cases. Nine out of ten cases reached the end. The courts want to speed up these trials. Many cases involve small mine workers who use sharp objects like knives in fights. Chief Judge Malaba spoke about these problems when the 2025 court year started in Bulawayo. He said the Bulawayo High Court had to work in Gweru to clear 137 cases last year. The high number of murder cases made the court leaders set up more courts. They did this because people lost trust in the courts.
