The rainy season has caused problems for residents in Bulawayo. Heavy downpours have damaged homes and vehicles in the last three days. The Bulawayo Fire Brigade has identified 14 areas in 10 suburbs likely to flood and chosen safe places for residents to go in an emergency. The Fire Brigade is getting ready for the worst. The Meteorological Services Department warned on Sunday that heavy rains, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and wind gusts would occur in the country's southern parts. The heavy rains started on Monday evening. The Bulawayo Fire Brigade helped residents in several suburbs who were in trouble because of flash floods. Their homes were partly underwater. In Mahatshula North, the fire brigade helped six homeowners yesterday. Chief fire officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo said his teams went to underwater homes with damaged property. In these cases, the Fire Brigade looks at the homes to see where the water should flow and makes small holes called weep holes.
