Shepherd Bushiri announced that he is initiating legal proceedings against former Director of Public Prosecutions Steve Kayuni. He alleged that Kayuni unlawfully prevented his eight-year-old daughter from traveling to Kenya for urgent medical care during 2021, leading to her death after a five-day detention at Lilongwe International Airport.
Bushiri stated that although he has forgiven Kayuni, he believes accountability is essential for officials who abuse power. He has directed his legal team to compel Kayuni to identify the South African authorities who reportedly ordered the action. Bushiri emphasized that the lawsuit aims to secure justice for all children denied healthcare through the misuse of authority.
