The government keeps failing victims from that terrible student massacre 25 years ago. Fourteen students plus a Red Cross helper died when security forces shot them under orders from dictator Jammeh. Many others suffered injuries that changed their lives forever. Nobody faced justice for these killings despite promises made. The truth commission gave recommendations, which the current leaders accepted but barely acted upon. They suggested making April 10 and 11 school holidays, creating ways for students to voice concerns, building rehab centers for victims, prosecuting Yahya Jammeh with Isatou Njie-Saidy, plus finding officer "Badjie," who tortured people. Almost none of these happened despite costing almost nothing. Security forces still use heavy force against protesters, just like before. The government never declared these dates as holidays or even made public statements about what happened. No monuments exist to remember these dark days in Gambian history. This behavior seems strange from leaders who came to power because people fought against the same dictatorship. Citizens want President Barrow to make both days official school holidays starting right away. They demand monuments across all regions and yearly events to remember what happened. Schools should teach about these events through special materials focusing on human rights and democracy. The Special Tribunal must start working fast to bring those responsible to court. Police must stop using violence against peaceful protesters throughout the country. All massacre survivors deserve free medical care plus education forever. Financial help should support these victims throughout their lives. The events should officially become crimes against humanity because of the killing plus torture that happened. Anyone involved must leave public office immediately.
