Catholic Group Throws New Year's Party for Seniors.

The Roman Catholic Men's Association of Namibia wanted to do something special for the elderly. On Wednesday, they hosted a New Year's gift party in Rundu.

It was the second time they had held this kind of party. Michael Linyando leads the group. He said they first did it in 2021. Fifty-six seniors received presents from their families then.

The goal is to bring families closer together. Linyando hoped more people would come this year. But the notice was short. Only 16 elderly folks received gifts.

"Young people often forget about their parents during the holidays," he said. "They should show their love instead."

Helena Kaundu is one of the seniors who attended. She thought it was a wonderful event.

"It's amazing to get surprise presents from our children," she said. "It feels like part of God's plan."

Magnus Samuyenga also went to the party. The 76-year-old was thrilled with his gifts.

"Many of us don't have much," he said. "These presents will make a big difference in our lives."

Samuyenga wants everyone to be kind like this. He believes good deeds are important.

The Catholic group plans to keep the tradition going. They hope it will remind young people to care for their elders.
