The Chinese medical team has given medicines and equipment worth about seven million dalasi to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital. These supplies will help improve services at the main hospital in The Gambia. The donation comes as part of ongoing health cooperation between China and The Gambia. Medical staff from The Gambia receive training in China as expert doctors come to work at local hospitals. The donated items include advanced equipment for various medical procedures. The hospital received bronchoscopy tools, bone screws, special nails for bones, X-ray machines, and breathing equipment. They also got injections, cleaning supplies, plates for fixing broken limbs, glucose, and tablets for patients. Counsellor Zhan Tong from China spoke at the ceremony held at the hospital. He said this donation shows just a small part of how China helps The Gambia. China remains very committed to supporting healthcare in The Gambia. Chinese medical teams have been coming to The Gambia since the 1970s as a sign of friendship. These doctors work at EFSTH but also help at other hospitals across the country. Each year, they donate about seven million dalasi for urgent medical supplies. Counsellor Tong feels proud of how Chinese people and their government maintain this friendship. The hospital leaders thanked the Chinese team for always being there to help. Dr. Mustapha Bittaye is the hospital's Chief Medical Director, and Mr. Lamin Dampha is the Ministry of Health's permanent secretary. Both expressed deep thanks for China's support. Dr. Bittaye mentioned how the Chinese team always asks what the hospital needs most. They listen carefully before deciding what kind of help to give. The hospital staff discussed their biggest problems with the Chinese team. They focus on reducing deaths during childbirth and improving certain surgical techniques. The Chinese team provides exactly what the hospital needs most. Dr. Bittaye said the amount of help they receive would make a very long list. He described the current donation as just a small sample of their total support.
