Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen told business leaders that his country faces big problems when trying to invest in Bangladesh. He spoke at a major business meeting at Hotel Westin where Chinese companies gathered to talk about future deals. The diplomat admitted that infrastructure, energy and port projects create serious headaches for investors. Chinese firms still want to pump more money into the country despite these roadblocks. Yao said Bangladesh keeps moving forward under Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus during these changing times. The ambassador revealed that China, Bangladesh and Pakistan recently held secret talks in Kunming city. The three countries agreed to work together on twelve different areas including trade and water management. Yao stressed that mutual trust forms the backbone of their partnership. He made clear that their cooperation does not target any other nations. Chinese business groups want to expand their operations across Bangladesh if conditions improve. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Chairman Ashik Chowdhury rolled out the red carpet for Chinese investors. He promised that BIDA stands ready to help any country that wants to do business in Bangladesh. Chowdhury announced plans to open a BIDA office inside China to attract more investment. The official also suggested building a China Town in Dhaka since Bangladesh lacks one. Energy officials and government secretaries joined the discussion about boosting economic ties between the two Asian neighbors.
