Workers have started major construction at Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes Acre to honor brave freedom fighters from a famous 1966 battle. The site remembers seven heroes who fought Rhodesian forces on April 28, 1966. These brave men were Christopher Chatambudza, Simon Chingozha, Godwin Dube, Chubby Sawana, Arthur Maramba, David Guzuzu and Swazini Ndlovu. The memorial also celebrates other important people like the late music star Simon Chimbetu. Zim-China Wanjin Agriculture Development will finish the first part of work within three weeks. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces have teamed up with different groups to make this project happen. Minister Marian Chombo attended the ceremony when construction began yesterday. Lieutenant Colonel Tichaona Masanganise explained how the upgrade will work across three separate stages. Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri or another top military leader will officially open the completed facilities. The construction team promised to maintain the grounds during the entire first phase. The first stage will add a fence around the property and install four large water tanks. Workers will also put up better lights, build a new guard house and fix the bathroom facilities. The second part will create a special parlour and restore the Seven Heroes Monument. The final stage will improve a huge 40-hectare military cemetery next to the shrine. Construction crews will handle grass cutting, landscaping and toilet cleaning until they hand over the finished work to government officials.
