CHRA Demands Probe Into Illegal Vainona Building Approval

The Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) is demanding urgent action from the Harare City Council regarding a controversial building approval in Vainona. The association is calling for a Special Council Meeting to investigate what appears to be an improper construction of a double-storey building on illegal land.

CHRA has accused city officials of gross incompetence and is pushing for the formation of an Investigation Committee under the Urban Councils Act. The organization wants a thorough examination of what it believes may be another instance of questionable administrative practices.

The association argues that the Vainona case is part of a broader pattern of problematic urban development in Harare. They are demanding that the council report the matter to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and initiate disciplinary proceedings against potentially culpable officials.

CHRA warns that failing to address the issue could implicate elected representatives. The group is insisting on three immediate steps: holding a Special Council Meeting, launching an internal investigation, and formally engaging ZACC to ensure accountability.

The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about urban planning, land use, and potential corruption within Harare's city administration. Residents are seeking transparency and proper adherence to urban development regulations.
