Anglican leader Bishop William Mchombo grabbed shovels with priests and parish committee heads to plant trees at Mmanga Parish near Mangochi Turn Off in Balaka. He reminded everyone that God made humans as caretakers of nature, giving churches a big job in growing new trees. He spoke against people who chop down trees without thinking about how climate change hurts our daily lives. The Bishop asked all Anglican members across the Upper Shire Diocese to start planting trees around their churches, schools, health centers, and homes. He stated that God created Earth with everything perfectly placed and then made people watch over this environment, including all plants. Father Eston Pembamoyo, who runs environmental programs, said they plan to plant more than 13,000 baby trees and will make sure these saplings grow into mature trees. Winnie Sadyalunda leads the St Veronica group at St George's Anglican Parish. She promised her team would help every parish in the diocese plant trees during the current Forestry Season. Everyone planted these trees after attending a three-day meeting for priests and church leaders from the diocese. Bishops Michael Oyipa from Kenya and Mchombo from Malawi led this event alongside Reverend Father Luke Buleya from Zambia. The gathering happened at Ngoms Conference Hall in Balaka. They called it the Spontaneous Disciple-Making Conference. This tree-planting effort shows how religious groups take action on environmental issues. The church leaders connect spiritual teachings with practical earth care through these community activities.
