Cineca gets a quantum leap with IQM Radiance 54

Cineca, the Italian supercomputing center, has joined forces with IQM Quantum Computers to bring the most powerful quantum computer to Italy. The IQM Radiance machine runs on a 54-qubit processor and will arrive in late 2025. Technicians plan to connect it with Leonardo, one of the fastest supercomputers worldwide. This addition creates a breakthrough for Italian technology and boosts the global quantum computing field.

This marks the first quantum computer housed directly at Cineca's facility. The new equipment strengthens the center's worldwide reputation for scientific computing excellence and puts Italy ahead in quantum research. IQM plans to back Cineca's studies and give Italian scientists access to cutting-edge quantum tools that help solve tough scientific problems.

Alessandra Poggiani, Cineca's Director General, called the arrival of IQM Radiance 54 a game-changing step for their center. She explained that it expands their ability to manage advanced tech systems. Poggiani believes their quantum computing work will create fresh opportunities that help both their member organizations and everyone connected to their network.

Mikko Välimäki from IQM Quantum Computers expressed excitement about placing their advanced system at Cineca. As Co-CEO, he sees this as helping expand quantum technology throughout Italy. He pointed out that their 54-qubit machine offers researchers and developers a platform to explore new quantum applications impossible to copy on regular computers.
