Commercial Bank of Ceylon made history when it opened its brand new office at Dubai International Financial Centre. The Sri Lankan bank threw a party to celebrate this major win for the country's banking world. Top executives from the bank joined hands with important people from both Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. Chairman Sharhan Muhseen and boss Sanath Manatunge cut the ribbon at The Gate Village building on the seventh floor. The Dubai financial center's head Arif Amiri helped them launch the new office. After the ribbon cutting, everyone headed to the fancy Shangri-La Dubai hotel for drinks and networking. Professor Arusha Cooray, who represents Sri Lanka as ambassador, showed up to support the bank. Business leaders from both countries mixed and mingled at the event. The new Dubai office will help the bank serve customers better across the Middle East region. Many clients from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Maldives do business there and need banking services. Commercial Bank already runs the biggest network of any Sri Lankan bank around the world. The bank operates twenty branches across Bangladesh and helps small businesses there grow. It also runs a full bank operation over at the Maldives islands. The bank even has a microfinance company that helps poor people get loans over at Myanmar.
