The Kibera court told the owners of a city beauty clinic that they must show up on Wednesday. Senior magistrate Samson Temu will give them new instructions about a patient who died after failed cosmetic surgery. Their defense team asked the court Tuesday to push back their plea until Thursday. Attorney Danstan Omari claimed his clients received late notice about the court date. Omari mentioned that his clients already got special protection from the High Court that blocks police from arresting them. He wanted the plea moved to Thursday when everyone could attend court. He also said they asked the High Court to stop the case completely, arguing the lower court should wait for those results first. Both the government lawyers and the dead woman's family attorneys fought against this delay. The prosecution team said every suspect knew they needed to come for plea-taking. Government lawyers asked the judge to order arrests for anyone who skipped court. They pointed out that the High Court never actually stopped the case from moving forward. After hearing both sides, the judge ordered all suspects to appear at 9 a.m. Wednesday for further guidance. The case involves a business owner who died last October after problems from a surgery. She had beauty work done at a city clinic and went home on October 18. She started feeling bad at home and went back to the same place for help. They sent her to Nairobi Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery on October 23. Hospital surgeons discovered many holes throughout her intestines during the operation. The patient died three days later on October 26, 2024. Her autopsy showed the 47-year-old woman died from serious internal damage caused by her full-body fat removal procedure on October 16, 2024. This liposuction surgery takes away extra fat from the body. After looking into what happened, government prosecutors decided to file criminal charges against the suspects.
