Zimbabwe is going through a tough time right now. They're short 6,000 transformers that were lost because of people wrecking them on purpose. July Moyo, who's in charge of energy and power development, spilled the beans about this problem today in the National Assembly. He was answering a question from Noah Mangondo, who represents Murehwa South.
Mangondo wanted to find out what the government plans to do about replacing busted-up electricity gear, especially for schools and hospitals. Some of these places have been without power for months. It's a real mess.
Moyo said the biggest issue is people deliberately destroying the transformers and other equipment. The country can't make enough new transformers fast enough to keep up with all the damage. It's a serious problem that's causing a lot of headaches.
The government is trying to fix things by replacing the damaged equipment with concrete poles instead of wooden ones. Concrete is stronger and lasts longer, so maybe that will help.
