Court Orders Seizure of Activist's Property Over Legal Costs. The High Court of Windhoek has ordered the seizure of Affirmative Repositioning leader Job Amupanda's movable property to recover N$91 440 in legal fees. A writ of execution issued Tuesday directs the deputy sheriff to attach property from Amupanda's Eros residence in Windhoek. The order stems from a December 2023 ruling requiring Amupanda to pay one day's legal costs in his case challenging Namibia's veterinary cordon fence. Lawyers representing the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) and commercial farmers Diethelm Metzger and Andre Compion filed the execution order. The initial bill of N$147 150 was reduced to N$91 440 after court assessment. The cost order followed Amupanda's announcement to amend his May 2021 claim against government officials regarding the redline fence. Last week, he testified before Judge Shafimana Ueitele. Defense attorneys indicated they would seek dismissal without presenting evidence. Judge Ueitele plans to hear arguments for dismissal today. Amupanda has not responded to inquiries about the writ. A previous October ruling by Ueitele shields Amupanda from paying additional legal costs should he lose the main case challenging the fence's constitutionality. The NAU and farmers oppose Amupanda's petition to declare the veterinary cordon fence unconstitutional and force its removal by the government.
