The Magistrate’s Court today rejected the guilty plea of a woman accused of attempting to attack Sultan Nazrin Shah of Perak during the state-level National Day celebration last August. Magistrate Harith Mazlan made the decision after Deputy Public Prosecutor Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani informed the court that a report from Hospital Bahagia Tanjung Rambutan revealed the accused, Nurshazwani Afni Mohamad Zorki, 41, was diagnosed with schizophrenia and not of sound mind at the time of the incident. Nasrul Hadi stated that Nurshazwani has since received treatment, is in stable condition, and is fit to stand trial. She faces a charge under Section 352 of the Penal Code for assaulting or using criminal force against Sultan Nazrin Shah on August 31, an offense punishable by up to three months in prison, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both. The court set Nurshazwani's bail at RM10,000 with two local sureties and ordered monthly reports to the Ipoh district police headquarters. A re-mention of the case is scheduled for December 8, when counsel will be appointed.
