Adewale Adeniyi reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service's commitment to working with the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat to boost intra-African trade and improve the reliability of trade data. During a visit to the Secretariat in Accra, the Customs chief secured endorsement for the Customs-Partnership for African Cooperation in Trade conference set for Abuja from November 17 to 19. Officials agreed that Customs administrations must lead efforts to correct deficiencies in continental trade statistics and to strengthen coordination and policy consistency. Wamkele Mene of the AfCFTA Secretariat welcomed the partnership and outlined plans to make C PACT an annual forum for harmonizing procedures and expanding electronic certificates of origin. Discussions also cover a proposed single bond guarantee scheme to streamline transit operations and reinforce Customs’ role in delivering credible data systems and mutual recognition of economic operators.
