Zimbabwe's Local Government and Public Works Minister has suggested that traditional chiefs should receive compensation from social media content creators who profit from filming court proceedings. Daniel Garwe raised the issue while addressing the Manicaland Chiefs Assembly in Mutare through Deputy Minister Albert Mavhunga, noting that videos and photographs from traditional courts generate substantial income for creators across platforms, including Facebook and X.

The minister emphasized that many chiefs remain unaware that their court sessions have become monetized content. Garwe questioned whether traditional leaders understand the financial opportunities being missed as their proceedings attract widespread online audiences.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Misheck Mugadza addressed the gathering separately, calling on communities to demonstrate proper respect toward traditional leadership.
