DAP eyes extra Sabah seats despite past betrayals

DAP will defend its six previously held seats in the upcoming Sabah state election, and Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced the party will contest one or two additional constituencies. The party won six of seven contested seats in the 16th Sabah election, but two representatives from Elopura and Sri Tanjong defected to Parti Warisan in 2022.

Loke expressed confidence in replacement leaders, and he noted that party constitution clauses and the Anti-Party Hopping Law protect against future defections by triggering automatic seat loss and mandatory by-elections. The secretary-general said incumbency will form the primary basis for negotiations between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional ahead of the state election.

DAP Deputy Chairman Nga Kor Ming announced that the Perak Umno liaison committee unanimously agreed to continue the BN-PH partnership for the 16th General Election. The alliance aims to secure a two-thirds majority in Perak during the next electoral term.
