DCI leads investigation into KNH patient murder

Kenyatta National Hospital refuted claims that an outside intruder killed a patient at the facility. Acting CEO Dr. William Sigilai stated Sunday that investigators lack evidence of external involvement in the death.

A nurse discovered the patient, Mr. Kinyua, during morning rounds Friday at 6 am. The patient lay motionless under blood-stained sheets with a neck wound. Hospital staff immediately secured the area and alerted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, which launched an investigation.

The hospital pledged full cooperation with authorities and strengthened security measures to protect patients, staff, and visitors. Dr. Sigilai announced plans for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

"The KNH management grieves this tragic event and stands committed to transparency throughout the investigation," Dr. Sigilai said. He urged the public to allow investigators to work without interference or speculation that might distress the family.

The hospital mobilized psychologists and counselors to support the bereaved family. Officials established a 24-hour helpline for psychological assistance and conducted additional counseling sessions with extended family members. These efforts aim to help relatives cope with their loss and trauma.

The institution maintains its dedication to preventing similar incidents through enhanced safety protocols and continued support for those affected by this tragedy.
