Stream Pro lets musicians turn raw audio into playable sounds with granular synthesis. Delta Sound Labs built its debut software instrument using ideas from modular gear and its earlier Stream effect. A short vocal clip, guitar take, or outdoor recording can become a new sound with loads of room for tweaks. Single Mode handles pads and shifting backgrounds. Users can stretch a clip while keeping its pitch intact, or alter the pitch without changing its speed. A scrub control also lets them stay on one small part of a recording. Handy for getting long textures from brief audio clips. Multi Mode takes things into keyboard territory. MIDI notes can trigger grains at different pitches, with velocity control and polyphony making chords and melodies possible. Each key responds to how the player performs, giving recorded sounds a more flexible role in a track. Then there is the 3D audio tech. Steam Audio's HRTF system lets separate notes sit at different points around the listener. Stereo and binaural playback are supported, while orbit, drift, and random paths can make sounds move through space. Headphone users get the binaural option. Distortion gets quite a bit of control as well. Individual voices can have different effects, and grains can receive processing before they join the rest of the signal. Analog-style or digital distortion can also work alongside spatial movement. The plugin sells for $79 and supports Linux, macOS, and Windows. Buyers can use it in AAX, VST3, or AU format, depending on their setup.
