Dhaka North City Corporation started a tree planting campaign Thursday morning. The program will last three months and aims to make the capital city greener. Environment adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan opened the event at Hararbari premises. City administrator Mohammad Ezaz joined the ceremony as chairman. The campaign theme focuses on creating a healthy city covered with green spaces. Hasan told residents they must work hard to protect the city environment. She warned that damaged ecosystems become very difficult to fix later. The government wants to build a livable Dhaka through more trees and plants. Officials stressed that people need to care for new saplings after planting them. Proper maintenance ensures young trees survive and grow strong. City leaders plan to plant between 300,000 and 500,000 trees during the rainy season. Last year workers planted nearly 77,000 trees across different areas. They put saplings on road dividers, parks, playgrounds and canal banks. The trees produce wood, fruits, medicine and decoration. Poor neighborhood areas also received new plants. DNCC works with volunteer groups to teach people about environmental protection. The forest department and housing authority help with the master plan project. Purbachal New Town will get special attention with 43 kilometers of lakeside greenery. City residents can call 01909110600 for tree services and rooftop gardening help. Officials also launched a zero soil program after the tree ceremony ended.
