Elektron just updated its Digitakt II and Digitone II music machines with new features. These popular instruments already had loyal fans, and the company keeps adding cool stuff through software updates. The latest version lets each device borrow tricks from the other and adds completely fresh abilities. Users love how Elektron expands what their gear can do long after purchase. The Digitakt II update brings over the Comb+ filter from Digitone II, which adds metal-like sounds to your music. Thanks to new routing options, you can also choose whether distortion happens before or after filtering. They brought back mono sampling to work alongside stereo recording for more options when capturing sounds. The key track function from Digitone II made its way over, too. Digitone II received a beefed-up Chord Mode that offers multiple ways to play harmonies and includes Chord Memory for complex sound building. Musicians can soon stream multi-track audio directly to computers with Overbridge - its plug-in version comes out shortly but beta testing runs right now. The Arpeggiator learned new tricks, including rotating offsets for fresh melody patterns and running at more speed settings than before. Both machines gained several identical features. Track Swap lets you move entire tracks with all settings intact - perfect for show preparation or studio organization. Parameter Lock helps edit settings across many steps at once. Live Record Overdub allows recording notes without erasing existing ones. You can also limit parameter recording to active steps only. They added new track selection methods for faster workflow. The update includes small but helpful changes like a metronome shortcut button. Digitone II displays kit previews, and Digitakt II has a revised velocity curve. Elektron improved both the interface and overall performance. Anyone interested can read complete details about fixes and additions on the Elektron website. Sound On Sound magazine tested both instruments with full reviews available in various formats. The version 1.10 update is ready to download from Elektron right away.
