Jamaican travelers will soon hop between Montego Bay and Kingston aboard domestic flights for the first time in years. Shane Munroe runs MBJ Airports and spilled the beans during a virtual meeting this week. The airport boss said Caribbean aviation watchers have waited ages for this comeback. LIAT 2020 Limited will handle the flights and connect Jamaica to Antigua as well. Munroe admitted many people might feel shocked about direct flights returning to Montego Bay from Caribbean spots. The airline plans to kick off Antigua service on July 11 with tickets priced at 122 dollars. LIAT promotes the launch date across social media platforms. The company started flying last August as a partnership between Antigua, Barbuda, and Nigerian carrier Air Peace. LIAT 2020 replaced the old LIAT airline that served Caribbean routes for decades. Munroe did not reveal when Kingston to Montego Bay flights would start up. Jamaica lost domestic air service after Air Jamaica Express quit the route back in 2015. Jam Airlink Express jumped into the market during 2019 but stopped offering regular domestic flights. The island nation has gone without reliable connections between its major cities for almost a decade. Passengers have had to drive or take buses for the cross-island journey. The new LIAT service will give travelers another option for moving around Jamaica.
