Double Murder Convict Breaks Down for Life Sentences

A Bulawayo High Court sentenced Rodney Tongai Jindu to two life terms for murdering his friends in 2017. President Mnangagwa's abolition of capital punishment triggered a mandatory resentencing hearing. Justice Nokuthula Moyo condemned Jindu's actions as exceptionally brutal and heartless.

Jindu killed Cyprian Kudzurunga and Mboneli Ncube through premeditated and calculated acts. He allegedly murdered Kudzurunga after fearing potential exposure of a previous ritualistic killing. The killer sent a deceptive message to Kudzurunga's mother, pretending to be her son.

Prosecutors described the murders as heinous and committed under severely aggravating circumstances. Jindu claimed a cross-border transporter offered him money for body parts. He dismembered Ncube's body after allegedly receiving a proposal for human remains.

The court rejected Jindu's defense of being under drug influence. His legal team portrayed him as reformed and religiously dedicated. Justice Moyo emphasized his lack of compassion and minimal remorse.

Shocking details emerged about Jindu's cold-blooded crimes. He buried Kudzurunga in a shallow grave in Bulawayo's Burnside suburb. The whereabouts of some body parts remain unknown.
