Fanny Muula from Dowa District Council, who works as the water development officer there, really likes what Orant Charities Africa does with water in Chakhaza B. The charity helps the council provide clean, safe drinking water to local people. Muula feels happy about the solar-powered water system that OCA built because it adds to what the district already planned. During a meeting where OCA showed their progress report, Muula mentioned that the council wants to move away from simple boreholes and prefer piped water systems for rural areas instead. She asked OCA and similar groups to team up with key partners when working. This teamwork would ensure that all rural communities receive equal access to good water. The WASH program started in 2016 around Kasese Health Centre. Mayamiko Mwenda runs this program for Orant Charities Africa. He explained that they want to see fewer people getting sick or dying in poor rural areas. Better water supply, bathroom facilities, and hand-washing habits help achieve this goal. Their recent work included drilling boreholes, installing pumps, building solar water systems, and fixing broken water points. Their results look impressive—96% of boreholes keep working properly. Thanks to them, over 3,456 people near Kasese can drink clean water. About 1,000 students enjoy better school bathrooms. The program helped launch Dowa's water plan and gave 50 kilograms of chlorine to Kasese Health facility to fight cholera. Local health workers promote good water habits as area mechanics help fix hand pumps. The team faced challenges like salty water underground, fuel shortages, maintenance problems, and high prices during 2024.
